Capital punishment

The recent execution of the master minds behind the Bali bombings brings this law of capital punishment into the spot light once again. I'm always a bit uncertain about what to think about this law. Capital punishment have your say?

The death penalty makes me quite uncomfortable. I think it is bad because:

- It encourages an attitude of vengeance and hatred, instead of forgiveness. Hearing about people that go to watch the executions chills me.

- Our legal and judicial systems are fallible. Sending the wrong person to their death is too great a possibility.

- Most, if not all, methods of execution are just brutal. The electric chair, hanging, firing squad (how militant can you get?)...

- God will judge the wicked in the end. Terminating someone's life will not bring about adequate justice for sin and evil.

I generally agree with your sentiments Pryderi.

At the same time, looking at the Biblical basis, I don't see a convincing reason to argue either way.

However, for secular reasons, I would agree that capital punishment is not the go...
